Phendimetrazine, also known as generic Bontril PDM, is a well-established medication that has been successfully used to treat obesity for over 40 years. It was approved by the Federal Drug Administration (FDA) in 1976.
Phendimetrazine is an appetite suppressant, meaning it decreases the sensation of hunger, cravings, and binge eating. It is also a Central Nervous System stimulant, meaning it helps to increase energy level.
How is phendimetrazine different from phentermine?
Phendimetrazine and phentermine are very similar medications, however phendimetrazine has a shorter half-life, which means it has a shorter duration than phentermine. However, due to this, it can be taken up to three times daily if needed, whereas phentermine cannot. Also, due to the shorter duration of action, it decreases the side effect of insomnia which can occur with phentermine when it is taken too late.
You are not a good candidate for phendimetrazine if you have uncontrolled hypertension, glaucoma, hyperthyroidism, a history of heart attack and/or stroke, irregular heartbeat, are currently pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you take a medication of the MAOI class.
